Security finds man viewing child porn in the library

By: Mary Stroka

A Dominican University security officer found a male in his 50s on a computer in the Rebecca Crown Library at 8:15 a.m. Jan.12. When the subject saw the security officer, he jumped up and left the library.

Security checked the computer he was using and saw he had several pages of child pornography on the computer.

“Right now all we know is what we reported we saw,” Director of Security John Tsouchlos said. “We believe someone used a computer in the library to access child pornography. We contacted River Forest Police Department, and they are in the middle of an ongoing investigation.”

RFPD cannot release explicit details regarding the case. “We have a person of interest, and we will be filing charges soon,” Sgt. Mike Thornley said.

“I believe it was the third floor of the library,” Tsouchlos said. Director of Public Information Jessica Mackinnon said she also thinks the incident occurred on that floor.

“It’s a police matter and as such we’re not a police force,” Tsouchlos said. “They have many more resources to use while investigating this.”

Tsouchlos said since he started here in 1999 this is the first time something like this has happened.

“Trust me, we take this very seriously. That’s why we contacted River Forest Police Department,” he said.

“We are happy to provide computers to the public as a community service as long as they’re used appropriately,” Mackinnon said.

It is not known at this time if the man in question has any affiliation with Dominican.

Additional reporting will soon be available online as more details emerge.
