River Forest Police investigating reports of possible child pornography at the Dominican library arrested a Forest Park man on an unrelated gun charge on March 11, according to a River Forest Police press release.

Police said a Dominican security officer saw a man in his 50s on a computer looking at what the security officer believed was child pornography on the morning of Jan. 11.

Police later identified the man as Mark Gandolfo, 51.

According to police, when Gandolfo saw the security officer he jumped up, turned off the monitor and left the library.

Security checked the computer he was using and saw there were several pages of child pornography on the computer’s temporary Internet files.

The computer was turned over to authorities for further investigation. River Forest Interim Police Chief Greg Weiss said the detective’s report showed several pages of what was believed to be child pornography.

After the analysis, RFPD detectives conducted a field interview and consent search at Gandolfo’s home.

“The consent search revealed no evidence that Gandolfo possessed any child pornography in his home,” the press release stated. “Detectives did locate a .357 Magnum revolver and 9 rounds of hollow point ammunition in the residence.”

Gandolfo was taken into custody because he did not possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of firearm ammunition without a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.

Due to “insufficient forensic evidence” Gandolfo was not charged in connection with the “inappropriate pornographic material,” police said.

He is scheduled to appear at the Maybrook courthouse April 15.
