While most Dominican students packed up and headed on their spring break trips all over the country, the softball team packed up and headed south to Fort Myers, Fla. where they would play eight games in a week to begin their season.
The girls recounted the trip as a bonding experience full of obstacles and fun. “The beginning of the week we were just getting used to being out on the field and playing together. By the end of the week we really came together and became a team,” sophomore Cary Thereon said.
The Stars began the first two days of their trip in a rocky patch by losing three out of four games. The last game was the most improvement shown the entire week by the Stars. The team hit four homeruns and forced a distraught pitcher from Neumann University off the mound. Junior Jori Cicale said the Stars transitioned from being bumpy at first to pulling together to finish their entire trip with a record of five wins and three losses.
The Stars will continue their season back here in the Midwest with their first home game on March 26 at 12 p.m. against Aurora University.
