The Dominican women’s basketball team is kicking off the season with a tied record. With three wins and three losses the team is looking good so far.
After winning their division last year, they have a lot to live up to. Practicing almost every day with new drills and practice games, the women are working hard to reach the school’s expectations. “We’ve already had one sports team [men’s soccer] prove that Dominican athletes really are STARS and it would be awesome to see another team make it far,” Dominican sophomore Sylvia Gomma said. Gomma attended all of the men’s and women’s soccer games this fall and also went to all of the home basketball games so far this season.
With 18 games left in the season the team is working hard to prepare for their future opponents. Starting guard Ashley Oliver said, “For the future I feel as if we will try our hardest and leave everything out on the floor.”
Wisconsin Lutheran College and Concordia University Chicago are the STARS’ biggest opponents this year. These games will be extremely important to the women’s advancement in the division. And with each game the women create a stronger bond, getting to know each other and the game a little better with every cheer, every whistle and every bounce of the ball.
These next 18 games are crucial for the team’s advancement in the division and having family, friends and classmates there to cheer them forward makes everything they do that more important. There are eight more home games this season so get out there and support the team!
