Hawks were selected for the NHL All-Star Game. Trailing Vancouver by 2 points in the Western Conference since Jan. 13, the Blackhawks will send one less player than they did last year when they sent four Hawks for the 2011 All-Star Game.
Team captain Jonathon Toews will be joined by Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa in Ottawa, Ontario for the All-Star Weekend on Jan. 29. Fan favorite and Canadian International Toews was quoted by the Chicago Tribune as saying that Patrick Sharp, last year’s All-Star Game MVP, should have been picked but was left out of the selection due to injury. This would have brought the number of Blackhawks in the All-Star Game up to four, tying the record number set last year.
Leading the Blackhawks in assists, Hossa has been selected for the fifth time to appear in the All-Star Game, while both Kane and Toews have played in two others together in both 2009 and 2011. The All-Star Game will start at 3 p.m. from the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa and will be broadcast by NBC Sports Network.
