Dominican Women’s Basketball: Stars Getting Better

Posted on

The women’s basketball team is flying high winning more than half their games half way through the season.

During break the women’s team had five games, winning three of them. The wins came against Knox College, Bethany Lutheran College and Benedictine University. However they did lose against North Park University and Concordia University Wisconsin.

The Stars had a rough beginning of the season, winning only one of their first three games, yet they have bounced back from those games. Many of the games they won have been close with small points differential between the teams. However in other games the girls have soared above the opponents winning their last game by 12 points.

Ashley Oliver, Katie Budz and Sarah Budz are the team’s top scorers. Oliver, a sophomore guard, is the leader with a total of 198 points this season. Katie Budz, another sophomore guard, is 30 points behind Oliver with 168 points and Sarah, a senior guard, is closely behind with 153 points this season. Kayla Blom, also a senior guard, is another high scorer with 121 total points.

When the team isn’t playing they are practicing hard to work on plays and become closer as a team. The women can always be seen at together at open gym working on their skills and in the workout room to stay in shape.

The women’s team has 10 remaining games this season. Six of the games will be played at home, hosted in the Igini Sports Forum. The battle for Division Street against neighboring Concordia University Chicago will be played on Feb. 1. This is one of the best games of the year as the two schools play for the Division Street bragging rights.
