Dominican Plays Host To Basketball Clinic

Posted on

Dominican is hosting a four-day basketball clinic. The clinic is spread across four Sundays – Oct. 16, Oct. 23, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. For $30 per session per athlete (or $100 for all four sessions per athlete), boys ages 8 to 14 can participate in the clinic in the Igini Sports Forum where they can learn, according to the Dominican University Stars’ official website, “offensive and defensive fundamentals ranging from ball handling and shooting to rebounding and defensive position.”

Dominican coaches and players on the university’s men’s basketball team teach the youngsters how to be better basketball players in the clinic. Dominican’s men’s basketball team Head Coach Mark White said the clinic is beneficial to young players and that “the goals of the clinic are to introduce the game of basketball to younger kids, teach kids the basic fundamentals of the game (ball-handling, passing, dribbling, shooting…etc) and to allow them to interact with college level athletes.

White has been the head coach of the men’s basketball team for 14 seasons, including 2010’s thrilling upset of top-ranked Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. This was the first time an eighth seeded team beat a first seeded team. White said the most rewarding part of Dominican sponsoring such an event is “the opportunity to teach younger basketball players.”
